Discover the Greek island of Lesvos with its ancient heritage and stunning landscapes on your bike with Seafari Adventures. The mild Mediterranean climate and the local cuisine will make it a cycling holiday to remember.A cycling trip on the East side of Lesvos island, the island’s best site for MTB. Mt. Amali & Mt. Olympus offers a wide range of routes for all levels of mountain bikers, while providing the group with the flexibility to change the paths according to their technical skills. The below trip is suitable for any MTB bike or E-Bike.

We need to make clear that the above trip plan is an example, which gives an idea of how a trip with us could be.

Every group has different needs in cycling distances, number of available days, flight times, secondary activities, plan of arrival and departure day, etc. Choose the type of Bike you want to ride and request a tailor-made multi day bike tour of Lesvos created especially for you and your friends or your cycling club. We are flexible to build, together with you, the ideal itinerary. We know the area very well and we can advise you accordingly. 

Lesvos is Suitable for Road Bikes and MTBs. Just choose your favorite style and we take care of everything else.

What Seafari Adventures will do for you

  • Plan your route each day; that’s done for you, in advance, over roads that are scenic and fun to ride.
  • Carry your clothes and luggages from place to place and from Hotel to Hotel depending on the cycling program; that’s what the support vehicle is for.
  • Adjust your bike’s brakes or shifters; we find a professional mechanic who can do that for you at the accommodation area in the evening.
  • Plan and provide professionally catered meals and food stops, beginning with dinner on the first day and ending with lunch on the final day of the tour.
  • Allow you to ride at a pace that’s comfortable and enjoyable for YOU.

Level of Support

Our fully supported tours offer you the highest level of service of any of our offerings, but you will still be an active participant as in any of our other tours. Our Event Director and Tour Leaders are there to help facilitate a great experience for you.

Tour Leaders: Our Tour Leader staff on our fully supported events consist of an Event Director, Professional Mechanic, and 2-5 additional staff members. As a well oiled machine, they’ll take care of the logistics and make sure you’re set up to have a great ride.

Luggage Transport: Our luggage truck will haul your gear from overnight to overnight, keeping your riding load down. You can bring two pieces of luggage, each weighing up to 25 pounds, and all your items should fit within. Luggage will be picked up and dropped off at each hotel, 

Route Markings: Your tour will use on the ground route markings to help you find the turns and focus more on the ride and the scenery than the cue sheet. Some tour locations have some restrictions on route markings, which will be discussed during your daily map meetings.

SAG Support: Our on-tour vehicles will be able to provide SAG support for health and mechanical emergencies (tools, food, first aid) . You should come to the tour prepared to ride the daily mileage.

Surface and terrain: The tour is designed as an intermediate (⅗  difficulty) MTB riding experience, covering 30-50 km every day, taking advantage of a fantastic network of quiet tarmac roads and the most important places of interest of the East part of Lesvos. Depending on your cycling experience the same trip can be adjusted for experienced cyclists. 

Meals and Rest Stops

You will enjoy a good Greek breakfast in the hotel every morning. Lunches & Dinners will take place at local restaurants everyday in order to have the chance to enjoy the unique gastronomy of the island. During the cycling time you can let us know what snacks/fruits/nuts  you want to have and we can take care of it. The support vehicle is equipped with a cooler box with ice in order to have fresh fruits and cold water or power drinks everywhere.  Lunches & Dinners offer a variety of options each day, and as much as possible, incorporate local food and flavor! Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and other special dietary needs can be accommodated when known about in advance. 

Each day, The support vehicle will follow you so you will have access anytime to the water or the snacks-fruits, water/energy drinks. The lunch stop over are designed based on the daily route program. 

Accommodations

Depending on the duration of your cycling trip you might need to change hotel accommodation in order to cover different areas of the island and see some of the most important spots of this unique land. The accommodation options we can offer vary based on your budget. It can be luxury hotels / villas or more budgeted options. You let us know what you are interested in and we will provide you with the best options. Depending on the nature and location of the trip, these facilities could range.

Cycling tours are a great way to get out and explore new places and meet new friends, we provide high standard authentic experiences. 

Mechanical Support

We are able to provide you with an experienced mechanic if needed. On the support vehicle we carry a supply of common size tires, tubes, and spare parts that are available for purchase if you need them, but if you have any parts that are unique to your bike, we encourage you to bring them.

A note about the weather:

In March, the day temperature is cool for comfortable cycling and in April you can expect temperate evenings. From May, the average sea temperature is 19 celsius, and pleasant for longer baths. From September comfortable temperatures are dominant again. Also, October and November are still good travel months, with a really small chance of rain and an average sea temperature of 21-22 Celcius.

DAY 2 – MTB Mt. AMALI

Distance : 25-30 km
Elevation: 550 – 650m
Estimated duration: 3 – 4 hours

Cycling the day’s route
Overview: After the first couple of kilometers, the route gets the riders to a gravel road with constant variations in both grades and scenery. Later on, the route advances in trails which meet with single tracks. The trails could become extremely technical and difficult, with carrying the bikes being a scenario which can be excluded if you want to. Technical or single tracks are available depending on the rider’s bike skills.

DAY 3 – MTB Mt. Roman Aqueduct
Distance : 40-45 km
Elevation: 700 – 750m
Estimated duration: 3 – 4 hours

Cycling the day’s route
Overview: After the first couple of kilometers, the route gets the riders to a gravel road with constant variations in both grades and scenery. In this route you will see one of the most famous archaeological sites, the old Roman Aqueduct. A nice route, most of it on gravel road. Later on we’ll stop at the Natural Hot Springs at Therma SPA where you can have a hot bath or other spa treatments.

DAY 4 – Cycling Around Gera Gulf
Distance: 45-55 km
Elevation: 750-850m
Estimated duration: 5 – 5.5 hours

Cycling the day’s route
Overview: Today’s bike ride has it all. We are sure that you will love it. We will do a long coastline ride with big variations on scenery and grades. Some parts of the route are on gravel roads and some others on asphalt roads. Today’s ride is more about fun and resistance, riders will cycle around Gera Gulf. Later on, we will end up in Skala Loutron where we will take a traditional boat to travel us across the Gulf. We will stop for a light lunch and we will continue cycling until we reach Plomari village, the motherland of Ouzo spirit.

DAY 5 – MTB to Mt. Karionas
Distance: 35-40 km
Elevation: 1100-1200 m
Estimated duration: 3-4 hours

Cycling the day’s route
Overview: After the first couple of kilometers of steep uphill, the route gets the riders to a breathtaking view scenery. We will visit a small church on the top of the hill and there we will continue cycling between pine & Olive trees. Most of the time we will be on a gravel trail. Later on we will visit the traditional villages of Milies & Megalochori, famous for the pine tree forest. We will have the chance additionally to visit an olive press factory and have olive oil tasting. South Lesvos is absolutely famous about Olive oil and Ouzo spirit. Do not forget that Lesvos island has more than 11 million olive trees and a quite big amount of them are located in South Lesvos.

DAY 6 – MTB Mt. Olympus
Distance : 35-40 km
Elevation: 850-900m
Estimated duration: 3.5 – 4.5 hours

Cycling the day’s route
Overview: After the first couple of kilometers in gravel trails we will reach Agiasos Village, It is located in Mt. Olympus. Today we will get in again on technical trails between pine trees and chestnut trees. The trails have constant variations in both grades and scenery. Along the route the riders pass by remote settlements, monasteries, old bridges and springs with mineral water.
Technical or single trails are available. In these trails the famous Enduro race takes place every year.
